Traverse Unit

Principle of Traverse Operation

HI-Tech Traverse Units are positive drives that convert the speed of a shaft into variable speed, variable stroke, reciprocating motion without changing the direction of shaft rotation.

This is a unique method of Converting Rotary Motion into Linear Reciprocating Motion on the principle that, the Contact Pressure created between the dimensiond\ed Ring and Shaft assembly enables significant forces to be transmitted.

The rate of advance of the unit on the shaft is directly related to the angle of contact between the ring & the shaft. The traverse direction reverses instantaneously & automatically. The assembly performs similar to a lead screw but has the added advantage of a finely variable pitch and an infinitely varible setting of traverse length.
